Prof. Dattatray Chintaman Lele

Born on 17th November 1908 on Javar State, Maharashtra,India. Prof. Lele was brought up by his maternal uncle from age12,following the death of his parents. His fondness for drawing , painting and his skills were quite striking right from his childhood.

He acquired the Degree of Art Master from J.J.School of Art,Bombay in 1940, along with a Diploma in Painting.
His teaching career began with Raja Dhanraj Girji Highschool and N.M.V. Highschool in Pune, Maharashtra state. During his tenure,he inspired many students who later earned international fame.
While teaching,he acquired the degrees of B.A.B.T. and in year 1955 he took charge of D.T.C. at Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalay as the Head of the department. Prof. D.S.Khatavkar, a great artist and sculptor who worked as his assistant ,who also was instumental in bringing in great changes in the D.T.C. course.
Diciplined and sincere Prof. D.C.Lele was also a kindhearted sweet natured teacher,who in no time became the favourite teacher among the students. He was known for his commitment and was respected by all. It was here that many great Art Teachers were created. Prof. D.C.Lele also served after his retirement. He worked as the Supervisor of the institution and the Vice-Principal of the college.
He left for heavenly abode on 17th May 1985.

He started painting the wonderful series on Indian Art. These paintings won National acclaim and several prizes in the Art Exhibitions held all over India. The paintings depict scenes and figures from Indian Mythology and are in the Ancient Indian Art Style which is fading out and becoming rare.
